Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics Section of Nutrition at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Postdoctoral fellowship in behavioral science related to the development of young children’s eating behaviors.  The scope of the project includes development of intervention materials for an intervention related to parent-child interactions in the domains of eating and motor development, pilot testing of intervention materials, data analysis, and development and implementation of a pilot randomized controlled trial. Viable candidates will have training in Human Development, Psychology, Intervention/Implementation Science, and/or Nutrition.  The individual will be supervised by Dr. Susan L. Johnson, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics. The individual will supervise students and potentially staff who participate in intervention development, data collection, coding and analysis. 

Responsibilities

Duties assigned will require an in-depth knowledge of child development, intervention development, and some knowledge of nutrition and implementation science. The position will involve organizing and implementing complex research plans, the development of methods of research, testing and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and writing reports containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. The duties will require the exercise of independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities within the predetermined research scope and methodology. The individual will be responsible for recruitment of participants as well as the conduct of study protocols.  S/he will assist in developing intervention content, selection of assessments for the pilot studies, supervise and train students/staff in implementation of the intervention, initiate and manage databases related to studies and conduct analyses (both quantitative and qualitative).  The individual will participate in literature searches, grant proposal and manuscript development, development of presentations for conferences and reports for funding agencies. The individual may be required to participate in lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies as needed, effectively use available technology to facilitate the success of the project, liaise with other departments, outside collaborators, and others to ensure success of project.  Other duties, as assigned, will include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings. Teaching is not an assigned duty for a Postdoctoral Associate. However, if teaching experience is desired, the Postdoc can engage in teaching but may not be the instructor of record. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a PhD in the subject discipline by the time of appointment and be a relatively recent graduate or graduation by the time of appointment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform or learn to perform each duty satisfactorily.
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject disciplines.
• Organizational and project management skills.
• Written and oral communication skills.
• Skill in leading, coordinating, and/or supervising the work of others.
• The ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in implementation of family-based interventions.
• Knowledge and training in implementation science.
• Statistical competence for survey analyses, psychometrics, and some experience in or aptitude to learn MPlus, longitudinal and growth modeling.
• Experience and knowledge in eating behaviors and/or physical activity of young children.
