Virginia Tech invites applications for 2 tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor. These positions are part of a cluster hire that will have academic homes either at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute (VTCSOM and VTCRI) or in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (HNFE).

Individuals with active research programs focused on health behaviors are invited to apply to join the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute’s Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors (CTRHB; https://ctrhb.vtc.vt.edu). The mission of the CTRHB is to conduct and disseminate transformative health behaviors research with the primary objective of preventing and treating lifestyle-related disease. Competitive salary, space and start-up packages will be provided.

The Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise is recruiting a candidate with implementation research expertise focused on physical activity and nutrition, community health, and/or obesity-related outcomes. The successful applicant for this position will work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists across a wide range of implementation research activities including, but not limited to, developing and testing implementation strategies, observational studies of real-world implementation, comparative effectiveness trials, and hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials. This will be a 9-month (70% research, 30% teaching) appointment. Expectations include obtaining external funding, mentoring postdoctoral, doctoral, masters, and undergraduate level research trainees, and modest teaching responsibilities in the area of dissemination and implementation science.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate-level terminal degree in health promotion related field, including, but not limited to, kinesiology, nutrition, or public health;
  • Post-doctoral training;
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high quality, refereed publications;
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively on research with others;
  • Demonstrated potential for obtaining extramural funding;
  • Excellent communication interpersonal skills including delivering presentations; and
  • Commitment to quality student education.
