The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Health Services Research.

Job Description:

Support the implementation and evaluation of a pathway targeted at the early detection and management of acute issues among residents living within long-term care (LTC), including optimizing the use of community paramedicine and emergency department transfers. This project is funded as a Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Health System grant.

Duties will include:

  • Recruit LTC residents and families for interviews
  • Recruit health care providers for focus groups
  • Conduct interviews and focus groups
  • Complete chart reviews and safety audits
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Assist with the roll out of the pathway, which is utilizing a step wedge design
  • Manage timelines and target deadlines for deliverables and milestones
  • Help with manuscript preparation
  • Opportunities to present results at local and national meetings
  • In addition to working with the project investigators located at U of Calgary, there is also the opportunity to spend a few months in Edmonton working and learning directly with project investigators at U of Alberta (during qualitative analysis).

Qualifications:

A minimum of a PhD, completed within the past 2 years, in the area of health services research, knowledge translation, gerontology, emergency medicine or a related field is required. Candidates should also have experience in qualitative research and in research involving older adults. Mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) research experience, and strong organization and communication skills are all an asset. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada.
