An exciting position for a Research Scientist is available within The Knowledge Translation (KT) Program, within the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada. The KT Program works to develop an evidence-based strategy to put knowledge into practice at both the clinical and policy levels; they accomplish this with their own peer-reviewed grants as well as with service contracts from other researchers and policy makers.  Their vision is to ensure high quality evidence reaches patients, health care providers and other decision-makers to improve quality of care.  By focusing on the processes through which knowledge is effectively translated into decision making, they play a critical role in enabling the creation and delivery of learning experiences for various stakeholders, and ultimately leads to improved health outcomes.

The KT Program consists of team members from the Knowledge Synthesis Team (KST), the Team for Implementation, Evaluation, and Sustainability (TIES) and the Central Administration/Support staff.

Reporting to the Director, KT Program, Dr. Sharon Straus, with operations guidance from the research program manager and collaboration with other KT Scientists and teams, this Scientist will have the accountability of implementation and evaluation projects (grant and service based) within the KT Program as well as develop their own KT research program. There will be a particular focus on science of practicing knowledge translation. This individual will be eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto and will be expected to collaborate with other researchers and research projects beyond those of the KT Program.  The successful candidate will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team with a fast-growing agenda that is focused on undertaking patient-oriented health research that will result in enhanced health care services for patients in Canada and globally. This individual must thrive in a collaborative team environment that prioritizes quality and productivity.

Qualifications

  • PhD and at least 5 years’ experience in the science and practice of knowledge translation in health care
  • Experience and interest in conducting collaborative KT research with various stakeholders including policy makers, researchers, health care managers, clinicians and patients; this includes contract research in partnership with policy makers, clinicians and health care managers
  • Experience and interest in building capacity in the science and practice of KT
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods including randomised trials, interrupted time series, process evaluations
  • The ideal candidate must be a team player with a collaborative working style, good communication skills and have the ability to pursue projects independently, with proactive actions and an inner motivation to succeed in a focused research environment.
