The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Clinical Epidemiology Program (CEP) has an opening for a Research Assistant position. This position is full-time with a one-year contract offered, with the potential for extension.

The one-year Research Assistant position focuses on behavioural and knowledge translation approaches to understanding factors associated with recruitment to early-phase clinical trials. The successful applicant will join a growing research team and will be involved in all facets of research including grant applications, ethics submissions, data collection, analysis, dissemination and knowledge translation. The purpose of this position is to assist Dr. Justin Presseau with various facets of an emerging research program focused on behavioural approaches to understanding recruitment to early-phase clinical trials in the area of cell therapy for cancer, cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. The successful applicant will also work closely with Drs. Manoj Lalu, Dean Fergusson and Bernard Thébaud and be embedded within the Centre for Implementation Research at the OHRI. Primary duties will include ethics submissions, design, conduct and analysis of behaviour theory-based interviews and surveys with patients, family members and healthcare professionals, and providing methodological support for clinical and research collaborators.

Basic Requirements:

  • Evidence of training certification in Tri-Council Policy Statement -2 (TCPS-2) and the International Conference on Harmonisation – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP)
  • Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations
  • Graduate degree in health or organizational psychology, health services research, health systems, knowledge translation, or related field (e.g. implementation science)
  • Face-to-face and telephone interview skills and experience
  • Experience working in health services research with patients and healthcare professionals
  • Survey development experience (online and paper-based)
  • Strong qualitative data analysis skills and experience
  • Strong quantitative data analysis skills and experience (descriptive statistics, correlational analyses, regression-based analyses)
  • Time management skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Flexibility to accommodate periodic demanding deadlines
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data and protocol requirements
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Nvivo
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as both part of an interdisciplinary team and independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous research experience, publications
  • Experience in a clinical research environment
  • Demonstrated experience using the Theoretical Domains Framework
