Population Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Rochester

The University of Rochester Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is seeking outstanding candidates for a Population Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship. The goal of this Fellowship program is to produce interdisciplinary researchers, trained in team science and competency-based skills, who can conceptualize research across the translational continuum from basic research through population health. Fellows will choose one of three tracks: Electronic Health Record as a Resource for Research; National, Regional and Local Database Analytics; and Population Health Behavior Change.

This program will utilize existing University of Rochester infrastructures and training resources, including the Institute for Data Science, Center for Biomedical Informatics, Department of Public Health Sciences, Center for Community Health, Population Health Coordinating Committee, Global/Territorial Health Network, and the National Center for Deaf Health Research. Postdocs will develop and complete a population health research project within an existing research program and participate in didactic and hands-on training experiences. The position is fully funded for a one-year period beginning August 16th, 2018.

The program is structured to enhance and foster translational research skills in several ways:

  • Implementation of an interdisciplinary mentoring team to support Fellow success, with team members from population health and basic science for exposure to both ends of translational science
  • Inclusion of one mentor from another CTSI hub or University of Rochester partner institution, to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary scientific teams
  • Participation in up to 3 rotations (2-8 weeks each) for exposure to areas relevant to population health. At least one rotation will take place in a research or community setting conducting research in a translational research stage (T0-T4) different from that of the trainee’s background.
  • Creation of an Individual Development plan to customize the training experience

Eligibility

Applicants are required to be within 3 years of completing their doctoral degree and have a solid track record of published research with at least one first authored publication. Strong data analytic skills are desirable. Per NIH conditions, by the time of appointment, the trainee must be a citizen or a non-citizen national of the United States who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residency.
