Health Economist, NCI Division of Cancer Control & Population Sciences

The Healthcare Assessment Research Branch (HARB) within the Healthcare Delivery Research Program of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences is conducting a national search for a Health Economist.  The position is located in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Rockville, Maryland.

HARB supports a portfolio of investigator-initiated grants and develops funding opportunities and research resources to support policy-relevant research on economic and health services questions across the cancer continuum. The ultimate purpose of HARB’s work is to improve the understanding of healthcare delivery in order to improve cancer outcomes, reduce cancer-related health disparities, and reduce the burden of cancer to patients, their families, and society.

Position Description:

Duties of this position include developing, coordinating, supporting, and conducting economic studies of cancer prevention and control and serving as an expert consultant on cancer-related health economics for the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health. The successful applicant is also expected to manage grants and contracts and may engage in research using existing healthcare delivery data such as claims, electronic health record, and survey data.  Opportunities also exist to develop new research resources and initiatives to advance cancer health economics research in support of the mission of HARB and HDRP. Given the rapidly increasing number of novel, often expensive cancer therapies, evolving care delivery models, and the changing health insurance and healthcare financing environment, the successful applicant has the potential to impact research that informs health policy.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the position should have a PhD or equivalent in health economics, health services research, or a related field as well as demonstrated experience and a strong track-record in the initiation, oversight, evaluation and conduct of health economics research, preferably with applicability to cancer. A history of collaborations and strong writing skills, including an established record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, is also required.
