Fellows Program in Implementation Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, MA
The Center for Healthcare Delivery Sciences (C4HDS) and the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School is accepting applications for the Fellows Program in Implementation Research. This one to two-year program will begin in the summer or fall of 2019 and is designed to help advanced clinical or research trainees develop and enhance their skills in implementation research with the long-term goal of establishing careers as independent investigators. This unique program is funded by an educational grant from Boehringer Ingelheim and provides the opportunity for successful candidates to receive implementation research training, experience and exposure in both an academic and an industry setting. The ideal applicant will have advanced training in clinical medicine, pharmacy, psychology or another healthcare field or doctoral-level training in methodologically-intensive research field such as health services research, health economics, epidemiology, or biostatistics.
The key components of the program are didactic and experiential training in implementation research, behavioral science, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, and comparative effectiveness research. Fellows will gain hands-on experience designing and conducting observational and experimental research projects focused on scalable interventions to engage patients and providers in healthcare; this will include mentorship in manuscript preparation and grant writing. For Fellows spending two years at the Center, this may include course work toward a Master of Public Health (or an equivalent degree) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
To gain exposure to implementation research studies conducted in diverse settings and to the variety of investigators working in this field, Fellows will spend time at both the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science and the Health Economics and Outcomes Research group at Boehringer Ingelheim, headquartered in Connecticut. The specific schedule for each Fellow will be based upon the nature of their projects and other training obligations, including required course work.
