The University of Vermont (UVM) is recruiting a tenure-pathway health services researcher eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank to lead the Center for Health Services Research in the Larner College of Medicine. Vermont has embarked upon a unique all-payer accountable care organization model spanning the state that facilitates remarkable opportunities for innovative health services research. UVM health services researchers collaborate across multiple colleges and departments at UVM. UVM seeks a Director to guide and grow our health services research program, and facilitate integration of the Center across disciplines, advancing excellence in research, education/training, and service. The faculty appointment for the new Director will reside in a College of Medicine department appropriate to the expertise and interests of the selected candidate.

Applications from candidates with a research focus on cancer care delivery, cancer policy and cancer health equity are preferred, with opportunities to partner with, and assume a leadership Associate Director role, in the University of Vermont Cancer Center. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work with the Vermont Department of Health on state initiatives and interface with state political leaders and organizations in the area of health policy. Vermont and northern New England also offer unique opportunities to test highly innovative models of healthcare delivery in a rural setting. Current public health priorities in Vermont include child and adolescent preventive services, educational outcomes, care coordination, opiate addiction, cancer prevention, smoking, mental health, elder care, palliative care, obesity, chronic disease, and oral health.

Resources supporting health services research within UVM include the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Cores, the Vermont Child Health Improvement Program, the Vermont Complex Systems Center, the Center for Aging, the UVM Cancer Center, the Cardiovascular Institute, the Area Health Education Centers, the Office of Health Promotion Research, the Center for Rural Studies, the Northern New England Clinical and Translational Research Network, the Center for Rural Addiction, and growing initiatives in gerontology and palliative care. Other partners in health services research include the UVM Medical Center (UVMMC), the UVM Health Network, the Jeffords Institute for Quality, Vermont Blueprint for Health, the Vermont Department of Health, the Green Mountain Care Board, and OneCare Vermont.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent) with strong experience in health services research.
  • Expertise in health services research that is nationally and internationally recognized.
  • A strong record of scholarly peer-reviewed publications and extramural research funding in health services research or related fields that are consistent with appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank.
