ACHIEVE Training Program, Washington University in St. Louis

ACHIEVE Training Program focuses on increasing dissemination and implementation (D&I) and data science research capacity in order to address global health disparities affecting children, adolescents, and their adult caregivers. It is designed for medical doctors (MDs) and post-doctoral (PhD) trainees from diverse backgrounds in the U.S., especially groups underrepresented in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences research, as well as trainees (post-professional degree graduates) from six countries in sub-Saharan Africa—specifically, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda. In addition, ACHIEVE collaborates with other sites in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe, sharing similar health challenges and disease burden profiles.

Specifically, ACHIEVE is a one-year training appointment for trainees interested in applying D & I and data science methodologies in global health, with a special interest in projects related to children, adolescents, and their caregiving families; parenting; HIV/AIDS; mental health; cancer; nutrition; and environmental health.

Trainees must commit to dedicating 40 hours per week at a research site in a low-and middle-income country (LMIC). U.S. candidates must be postdoctoral fellows or professionals within six years of completing their terminal degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, ScD, etc.). Candidates from one of the six SSA countries must have completed their terminal degree (PhD, MBChB, etc.) within six years of the start of the program.

Letters of intent for the 2023 application cycle are due October 1.
